Make:Shift - Sharing City

Make:Shift is back, but this year it’s bigger and better than ever before. We will be safely convening at Gatis Community Space to experience inspiration, stimulating conversation and fantastic food.

Date: Sunday 10 October
Time: 11am – 4pm
Location: Gatis Community Space

What to expect!

If we’ve learnt one thing from the pandemic, it’s that communities matter. By pulling together over the past couple of years, we’ve been able to achieve extraordinary things together. But what if we could do more?

Make:Shift 2021 will focus on the power of sharing. We know that sharing has huge benefits for communities. It helps to bring us together. It helps to save us money. It helps to reduce our carbon footprint. But what are some of the practical ways that communities can unleash the power of sharing?

We are working in conjunction with Eden Project Communities and Gatis Community Space to bring you this sensational in-person event. You can expect a sizzling array of national speakers alongside all the usual conversation and inspiration.

Together with the magic dust that you always bring, some of these sparks of creativity inevitably turn into things that will make a real difference to our city.

The Programme (subject to change)

MORNING

Eden Project Communities – Flourishing Forwards Workshop
Come and join us for this workshop led by Molly & Sam from Eden Project Communities, where we will be taking an ABCD (Asset Based Community Development) approach, guiding you through some activities to explore the power and strengths that you and your communities already have, and look at how by harnessing this potential, your projects and dreams can flourish forwards.

Kate MacDonald / Timebank Hull & East Riding
Kate will be talking about timebanking as a mechanism to enable relational networks and trust to develop between individuals, groups and organisations. How can this equitable platform for reciprocity facilitate a route to unlocking abundance by sharing what we have?

What if:
we co-create a NEW STORY

  • of abundance over scarcity
  • of collaboration over competition
  • of connection over isolation
  • of community over individualism
  • of compassion and understanding over judgement and fear

What if .. we JOIN TOGETHER to create systemic solutions to the challenges we face?

How can tools like timebanking help?

Maff Potts / Camerados
Founder Maff Potts returns to Wolverhampton following the ‘Camerados On The Streets’ tour, which saw a public living room installed in the Mander Centre this August. Maff will be holding a conversation about the ways we can all get through tough days and tough times together in our own neighbourhoods and our own lives. He’ll be sharing some of the many stories, the mistakes and the downright hilarious happenings, from Camerados many forays with public living rooms and is particularly interested in understanding how Wolverhampton could create a space that everybody feels welcome to pop along to no matter their background.
